May 25 was National Missing Children’s Day, as established by President Ronald Reagan 30 years ago. This weekend, the first annual “Bring Our Children Home” event will be taking place from 5 PM to 10 PM on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 at the Hampton Inn in Belton.
Free live entertainment will be provided for all ages including dancing, face painting, a baby show and puppy pageant, along with cake walks and raffles. Local music groups The Bucket Band and Overdrive will be performing Friday and Saturday, respectively. Crime Stoppers will be present at the event, and local “celebrities” will participate in a Saturday-night dunking booth, including Stan from the post office, the Belton chief of police, and George Shrum. Mayor Davis and Teresa Hensley will come to the event to present proclamations.
Bring lawn chairs to the event. In the case of rain, the event will be canceled.
All proceeds go to help find missing children. Six families with missing children will be present at the event. For additional information or to donate, contact Cherie Chandler-Newell at 816-416-8006.
The Hampton Inn is located at 16410 Cornerstone Drive in Belton.
