On Tuesday, September 24, the Belton City Council approved an intergovernmental cooperation agreement with the City of Grandview in order to widen 155th Street.
The agreement covers the extension of road from the eastern end of MoDOT’s right-of-way at the 155th Street and I-49 interchange, extending through “to approximately Kentucky Road,” as long as funding permits. This section of road will be widened to include three lanes, as well as curbs and gutters.
The road widening will cost an estimated $6.5 million. The funding of this project is to come from each city’s local funds as well as some funds from the Federal Surface Transportation Program. Belton and Grandview each applied to this program and the total amount awarded is approximately $4 million. Thus, Belton and Grandview must each supply an additional $800,000 to finish funding the project.
The agreement documents also state that MoDOT plans to replace the 155th Street bridge that crosses I-49 as well as to “construct related intersection improvements” in 2014.
