Santa tours Cass County to kick off Christmas season

nameThe holiday season is right around the corner in northern Cass County.
BELTON. Belton will kick off the celebration on Monday, December 2, in Peace Park. The annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting and Kickoff for Operation Santa begin at 5:30 p.m., and Mayor Jeff Davis and Miss Belton Olivia Henson will be present for the big event.
Festivities include prizes, entertainment, snacks, and of course a visit from Santa (scheduled for 6:20 p.m.) Bring two canned goods or a new unwrapped toy to receive a free ticket for prize drawings. Any additional tickets may be purchased.
All proceeds from the evening benefit the Belton Welfare Association. To find out more about Belton’s holiday event, call the City Hall at 331-4331.
RAYMORE. The following day, Raymore Parks and Recreation extends an invitation to the community to attend the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony at Raymore City Hall, beginning at 6 p.m.
The City has announced that the Bud Johnson Petting Zoo will be returning this year, allowing guests to “mingle with and hand-feed an assembly of animals.”
Santa Claus will make his way from Belton to Raymore for the Tuesday night celebration, and children will be able to meet him and get their photos taken with the “jolly old elf” in City Hall.
This event is also the kickoff for the annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Food Drive. The food drive benefits Fishes ‘n Loaves food pantry, so all attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations.
To find out more about this Raymore event, visit the City’s website at or call the Parks office at 816-322-2791.
HARRISONVILLE. The City of Harrisonville will be celebrating the beginning of the holiday season all day long on Saturday, December 7. At 2 p.m., families are invited to “Christmas in the Cabin” at the historic Sharp-Hopper Cabin (400 E. Mechanic Street), where they can help decorate for an 1870’s Christmas, from making old-fashioned ornaments to stringing garland to sewing stockings.
Finally, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., the Mayor’s Christmas Tree lighting event will take place at Marler Wirt Allen Park, along with the singing of Christmas carols. Of course, Santa will continue his tour of the county for a visit to Harrisonville during the range of Saturday festivities.
