CASS COUNTY — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the report of a body seen near the railroad tracks in the area of E. 175th Street and S. Boardman Rd. northwest of Pleasant Hill. The report was called in by the railroad and deputies have confirmed that they have located a body. Investigators are still on scene. No determination has been made regarding cause of death and no description of the victim is being released at this time.
UPDATE: The Cass County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of an adult female from the Union Pacific Rail line in the area of E. 175th and S. Boardman Rd. northwest of Pleasant Hill this morning. Investigators are working to determine the identity of the victim. Evidence at the scene indicates that the victim had been struck by a train sometime in the last 24 hours. A vehicle located near the scene was removed and may help to identify the victim.
UPDATE (1/10, 3PM): The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim struck by a train near Pleasant Hill. The victim was identified as Mindi L. Smith, 42, of Lee’s Summit. Investigators have not determined an exact reason why Smith was on the railroad tracks. Foul play has been ruled out.
