KC Dirt Devils win Memorial Day tournament, two players make national team

The KC Dirt Devils are off to a hot start this year, as they recently walked away champions in last week’s ASA Memorial Day Invitational. The team went 5-0-1 in the tournament to bring home the trophy.

The tournament was held in Olathe, Kansas and fielded a total of 250 teams across the KC Metro area. The Dirt Devils took down four teams on their way to the championship, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 31-11.

Following the tournament win, the Dirt Devils also learned that two of their players made the USA Elite-Select All American National Team. Katlynn McConville and Aubrey Brown were selected for the national team after trying out in a KC metro showcase on March 27.

As part of the National team in the Midwest region, Brown and McConville will travel to Florida to compete in the All American Games on July 13-16 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. McConville, a left handed pitcher/outfield/slapper was selected for the 12u team, while Brown, a right handed pitcher/infield/power hitter was selected for the 13u roster.

Brown has been playing for the Dirt Devils since the organization formed in 2012. A power hitter, Brown hit six home runs in 2014, and

already has 2 in 2015. She is currently hitting .561, and has a 14-2 record as a pitcher. Last year Brown finished the season with a 35-10 record.

McConville has put up impressive offensive numbers as well, but in a different manner. She is a left handed slapper, and is hitting .596 this season. McConville was one of eight girls in the nation to max out the score on slapping. Defensively, McConville is a pitcher, and covers a hefty amount of ground the outfield, as well.

Their success in the summer seasons could lead to bigger things for both girls, as colleges and other national teams do a lot of recruiting throughout the summer. The Dirt Devils encourage the players to attend various summer camps and showcases to help them achieve the highest level possible. Coach Stephanie Kim had high remarks for both Brown and McConville.

“Aubrey and Katlynn are breakthrough players who are building the momentum for our organization,” Kim said. “Expect to see accomplishments from many girls who wear the KC Dirt Devils uniform.”

The Dirt Devils are scheduled to play in the ASA Heartland Showcase on June 5-7, a regional event that will take place at several venues in the metro area. For more information, visit http://www.kcdirtdevils.com
