School bus stop vandalized over holiday weekend

The Raymore-Peculiar Sunrise Optimist Club school bus stop was vandalized over the weekend, as a piece of glass was shattered by what appears to be a glass bottle. Optimist Club member Carl Kent noticed the damage to the bus stop on Friday morning, and immediately called the police.

According to the police report, it is suspected that a glass bottle shattered the bus stop window. The officer at the scene found pieces of a bottle lying on the ground by the bus stop.

According to Kent, the bus stop is not insured, and the optimist club held a meeting on Tuesday to decide how to proceed with the matter. The Optimist Club chose to get estimates on replacing the glass, which should be completed within the next few days.

Raymore resident Jimmy Sackuvich built the bus stop as an Eagle Scout project in September of 2011 with support from the Optimist Club. He was saddened to hear the news about the damage.

“I saw it and my jaw dropped,” Sackuvich said. “I could not believe that someone could do that to a structure dedicated to helping out community children.”

The Raymore Journal will provide updates as we receive them.
