Kanakuk Kamps was in town last week, as they hosted a weeklong summer camp at the Raymore First Baptist Church on 58 Highway. Kids from grades K-8 could enjoy a week full of fun, games, and worship as they learned about the gospel through activities.
Kanakuk Kamps is a travelling summer camp that began in 1926. Based out of Branson, Mo., Kanakuk used games and activities to instill confidence in children, and teach them about Christianity.
Jacob Schenk, the camp coordinator for the week, has been working with Kanakuk Kamps in Branson since he was in college, where he worked all four summers at their camps. He enjoys travelling every summer and helping to build confidence in children.
Schenk strives to carry out the mission of Kanakuk Kamps at every location, making sure that each camper has the best experience possible.
“Kampout’s mission is to partner with churches to reach families in the local community with the Kanakuk Experience for the gospel of Jesus,” Schenk said. “We want to let people know that there is a church here that wants to bring them in.”
For Schenk, the best part about hosting the camps is watching the kids grow more confident in themselves as the week goes on. Through various activities, kids learn to trust in themselves and others, a valuable skill that Schenk believes is very important in life.
“We have a gospel connection at every place,” Schenk said. “The kids have to trust us that we and our equipment is going to hold them up and keep them safe.”
