Kicking off the first meeting of the year, the Raymore city council discussed several items on Jan. 11, including denying a United States Department of Agriculture agency the use of fireworks to get rid of birds causing issues at a local business.

Ray-Pec basketball teams each win games against Belton
The individual games happened on different nights, but the Raymore-Peculiar boys and girls basketball teams swept Cass County rival Belton this past week.The Ray-Pec boys began the sweep with an 55-54 overtime victory Wednesday night and the Lady Panthers followed suit on Friday night when Samantha Hellums sank a field goal at the buzzer to defeat the Belton girls 40-38.

Ray-Pec schools got back in session last week
Ray-Pec schools resumed this week. Students resumed their in-person, ViPR (virtual), or A/B schedules on Monday, Jan. 11. (Note: Some students with classes through Launch or at off-site programs will resume classes on different dates. Please check for emails or other communication from those off-site programs.)

End to COVID-19 pandemic is in sight
An end to the COVID-19 pandemic is within sight with the authorization of use for two vaccines.The Cass County Health Department currently has a plan underway to distribute those vaccines as they become available, including an online survey for all residents to take to be notified of their turn.

Basketball Champs
The Ray-Pec High School Boys Basketball Team won the Holley Division of the William Jewell Holiday Basketball Tournament. Ray-Pec defeated Liberty, 47-46, on Dec. 30 to win first place.

Jeff Weber sworn in for 2nd term as Sheriff
Harrisonville, MO. – In a ceremony at the Cass County Historic Courthouse, Jeff Weber was officially sworn in Tuesday, December 29, for his second term as Sheriff of Cass County.

Raymore-Peculiar School Foundation Awards Grants
The Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation on Dec. 11 awarded 19 Classroom Impact Grants, totaling $10,359, to teachers across the district. Many of the grants will provide hands-on experiences for students. Some examples include sewing machines, Instant Pots, a slab roller for ceramic projects, and musical instruments. Superintendent Dr. Mike Slagle, Foundation Executive Director Jodie Huston, Board Member Rich Bartow, and Foundation Secretary/Treasurer Pam Steele made the surprise presentations.
