The 2020 State of the City report started off with a big headline – in a difficult year, and among much good that was accomplished, the city of Belton added three major employers and 2,000 new jobs.

People can share books with 100,000s of libraries
The city council meeting on Nov. 9 touched on several issues, including new contracts, a new stop sign and the sale of a general obligation bond to fund street and park improvements. Stealing the show from the start was the Arts Commission, which has been working the past several months.

Ray-Pec District receives clean audit
The District received a clean audit opinion on its financial statements, compliance with laws and regulations, and internal control over financial reporting for the year ended June 30, 2020. Brad Steele, CPA from Westbrook & Co., P.C., presented the audit results on Oct. 22 to the Board of Education. Board President Ruth Johnson: “The audit shows that our staff is following best practices in financial policies and procedures.”

Woerner gets bittersweet 2020 Halloween treat
Halloween is known for tricks or treats. For Raymore City Clerk Jeanie Woerner, it was a day with a bittersweet treat. Oct. 31 was the official day of Woerner’s retirement after more than a quarter of a century working for the city.
