The 2019-20 winter sports season had its first Cass County showdown last week when the Belton basketball teams played host to Ray-Pec High School in a basketball doubleheader. The Lady Panthers opened the doubleheader with a 38-31 victory over the Belton girls team. The victory sends the Ray-Pec girls into the Christmas break with a 4-3 record, after opening the season with a pair of losses but responding by winning four of its last five games. Working at his alma mater was a dream come true. After the Nov. 15 win, Tom Kruse holds the district championship trophy. While attending Northwest Missouri State University, Tom Kruse was assigned to write about what he wanted to do in 10 years. “I stated that I wanted to be back at my high school as the head football coach,” he said.

Deborah June Halem a teacger at Ray-Pec High School, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the age of 66. Halem was born March 22, 1953, grew up in Ruskin Heights, Missouri, before moving to Creighton, Missouri, with her parents and three sisters in 1958.
