The 2021-2022 Missouri High School winter sports seasons are heading down the home stretch of their seasons as teams make their final preparations for the postseasons in each respective sport.
The District wrestling tournaments will be conducted this weekend while the 92nd annual Missouri State High School Activities Association state wrestling tournament will be conducted next weekend in Columbia while the 4th annual MSHSAA girls’ state wrestling tournament will also be next weekend in Columbia.
The boys and girls high school basketball seasons are also heading down the home stretch as they prepare for postseason tournaments which will begin the first part of March.
While postseason preparations are well underway, the Cass County High School teams were busy working on those preparations this past week as they continued competition during the regular season.
Ray-Pec High School suffered through a 1-3 basketball week last week as the Panther boys won one game, 67-43 against Lee’s Summit North on Tuesday, but lost their other contest, falling 68-56 at Blue Springs to fall to 9-10 on the season.
The Lady Panthers, meanwhile, suffered a pair of losses, falling 53-39 against Lee’s Summit North on Monday and 59-48 at Blue Springs on Thursday, to see its seasonal record fall to 6-13.
Belton High School, on the other hand, had a .500 week with the Pirate boys picking up a pair of victories, but the Lady Pirates were unable to follow suit as they lost both of their games last week.
The Pirate boys opened the week with an 84-83 double overtime victory over Fort Osage on Tuesday and closed the week with a 63-46 victory over Van Horn on Saturday to even their seasonal record out at 10-10.
The Lady Pirates, meanwhile, opened the week falling 27-23 to Lee’s Summit on Monday and fell 54-41 against Fort Osage on Tuesday to fall to 1-10 on the season.
The Harrisonville Wildcat boys basketball had just one outing this past week, but that outing did not treat the Wildcats well as the Harrisonville boys lost 55-47 against Warrensburg on Friday night to fall to 4-15 on the season.
The Lady Wildcats, meanwhile, had two outings and were up and down. The Lady Wildcats extended their winning streak to 17 games Friday night with a 49-32 win over Warrensburg but saw that winning streak snapped 24 hours later as they fell 51-37 against Grandview Saturday night.
Archie High School was scheduled to have two outings last week, but Mother Nature got involved and reduced that to just one outing.
Archie’s teams traveled to Drexel on Tuesday night with the Whirlwind boys scoring a 53-41 victory to improve to 12-7 on the year while the Lady Whirlwinds also knocked off the Drexel girls 49-38 to improve to 13-6 on the season. Archie was scheduled to play at Appleton City on Friday, but snow prevented those games from being played.
The Drexel teams were in the same situation as Archie, as the Bobcats and Lady Cats competed in their games against Drexel on Tuesday and were scheduled to play host to Liberal High School on Friday, but the snow changed those plans.
Midway, Pleasant Hill and Sherwood High Schools were all in the same scenario, as each played boys and girls games Tuesday night, but snow prevented action from taking place Friday night.
The Midway boys dropped an 84-28 contest against Lakeland on Tuesday to fall to 8-10 on the season while the Midway girls scored a 51-49 victory on Tuesday to improve to 7-12 on the season.
The Pleasant Hill girls, however, were only scheduled to play against Clinton on Friday, but that game was postponed due to the snow. The Rooster boys, meanwhile, were in action on Tuesday, but dropped a 73-25 contest against Center to fall to 5-9 on the year.
The Sherwood High School teams split their two games against Butler on Tuesday, with the Lady Marksmen scoring a 46-30 victory to improve to 10-7 on the year while the Marksmen boys dropped a 58-16 contest at Butler to fall to 0-14 on the season.
The Sherwood teams were scheduled to play at Buffalo on Friday night.
